Prophetic Prayer and Word
for the Prayer Shawl
Jessica Wickham © 09.13.06
When I make
prayer shawls, it is a way to express God’s love to an individual, their
colors and meanings are two-fold, the vision God gives to the maker and
the words God speaks to the receiver over time and seasons. As I tell
everyone, who I have ever made a shawl for as you read what God spoke to
me as I made your shawl, remember seek God in everything first, my final
blessing over this shawl was only that which what God wants is there and
revealed, his timing, his seasons, his way (Ecclesiastes 3). I know you know
these things, but from my heart I want God’s will to be done, not my
own.
I began making prayer shawls in 2003. A United Methodist
Church, in McKinleyville, California had a Small Woman’s Group where a
kind older woman taught me the skills to create these gifts of God. From
her teaching and kindness I began my journey. Through word studies and
Scripture I have studied mantles (like that of Elijah) and prayer shawls
over time and history.
The shawls I make are made up of a three-step stitch, with
four loops. The stitch has three loops, the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit, the fourth loops pull through the three loops, and is the
blessed Trinity.
The foundational
verses of all prayer shawls are:
Psalm 139:13-14,
"For the Lord our God has searched you and knows you. He knows when you
are sitting down and rising up. He understands your thoughts afar off.
He comprehends your path and your lying down and is acquainted with all
your ways. For God has formed your inward parts and knitted you together
in your mother’s womb. Praise Him!! For you are truly fearfully and
wonderfully made. Marvelous are the works that the Lord has and is
preparing to do. May you know him well."
Numbers 6:24-26,
""The Lord will bless you and keep you; The Lord will make
His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord will
lift up His countenance Upon you and give you peace."
As I made your
shawl I prayed this:
May
God's grace be upon this shawl...warming, comforting, enfolding and
embracing. May this mantle be a safe haven... a sacred place of security
and well-being...sustaining and embracing in good times as well as
difficult ones
In the name of
God: the creator, the giver of life, the holder of time
In the name of Jesus: the savior, the healer, the lifter of pain, and
prince of peace
In the name of the Spirit: the comforter, the consoler, the sustainer of
life.
I knit this mantle of caring, may you clothe your daughter in the
garments of her inheritance.
I knit this mantle
of protection, upon her and her family. Father, in times of change, and
times of rebuilding and structural change hold her in father, wrap her
in your wings, may she rest in the peace and knowledge, Father that you
are sovereign, and may her spirit begin to be at peace with your
sovereignty, Holy One,
May this mantle be
a veil of protection Father, a physical symbol of what you are doing in
the spiritual.
I knit this mantle
of wholeness, Lamb of God for your shed blood brings us back into
communion with you, it is a symbol of renewal with my sister, Father,
Good Shepherd, may she begin to be perfected as your bride, LORD of
Lords may she come to know you as she becomes as Adam once was made in
your likeness.
I knit this mantle
of strength, Lord of Hosts. I ask for your guidance, your counsel, and
above all your protection from every spiritual thing that would rise up
against my sister, her family, or her ministries. Father that you would
continue to surround her and her family with your warring Angels, the
heavenly host and prepare the ground for them, Father give them strength
to endure while the war is being fought.
I knit this mantle
of healing, Father for healing within to without, for healing in the
spiritual and in the physical, Father may she put on a garment of praise
to you, to praise you Lord for the healings you have done, are doing and
will do. Father, thank you for the work you have begun, thank you
Father, may your Spirit blow on through her.
I knit this mantle
of patience, may she know your love deeper.
I knit this mantle
to enfold her with your presence Lord, may your presence fall anew on
her.
I knit this mantle
to encircle her Father. Encircle her with the reminders of Your
goodness, Your love, Your mercy, Your comfort and Your greatness.
I knit this mantle
to empower her with the gifts you have given her; with the power you
have given her through the death of your Son on the cross.
Finally, Father I
ask you to seal your love and power upon this shawl. May only your word
and will be spoken through it. Father, may she have a fresh revelation
about You. May your words of wisdom and truth speak through this shawl.
Amen.
I can’t thank you enough for who you are, and what you allow
God to do through you.
Blessings
to you,
You are an awesome, woman of God.
Thank you for stepping out and allowing me to make my Glory
Ring. ……
Sincerely,
Ms. Jessica

LORD your GOD is in your midst, A victorious warrior. HE will
exult over you with joy, HE will be quiet in HIS love, HE will
