Kings 19
-
I
Kings 19:16 – Elijah is commissioned by the LORD GOD to anoint Jehu as
King of Israel and anoint Elisha as the prophet to take his place.
-
I
Kings 19:17 – And the word of the LORD to Elijah was this: “And it
shall come to pass, that him that escapes the sword of Hazael shall Jehu
slay and him that escapes the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay."
GOD does not give up on having HIS will accomplished.
-
I
Kings 19:19 – Elijah places his mantle on Elisha.

II
Kings 2:1-12 (read)
-
Elijah
performed sixteen recorded miracles. Elisha who functions with a
double portion performs thirty-two recorded miracles.
-
II Kings 2:13-15 – Elisha’s first miracle was a dramatic
introduction of a new prophet in the Land. With Elijah’s mantle he
parts waters of the Jordan River.
-
II Kings 2:19-22 –
The second miracle was when he cast salt into a dry spring and upon barren land
and the waters and the land were healed. Salt is used for healing
natural wounds of the flesh as well.
-
3)
II Kings 2:23-25 – Elisha was mocked because of his bald head and he
proclaimed a curse that caused two female bears to destroy 42 children.
-
4)
II Kings 3:16-17 – During a drought when the land was dry and the
cattle and crops were dying, instead of sending rain, he filled the
irrigation ditches with water - without rain. There is more than one way
to fill a ditch. GOD has many different ways to answer our prayers.
-
II Kings 3:18-20 – The LORD speaks to Elisha the Promise of Victory in
War – that the Moabites would be delivered into the hand of the
Israelites.
-
6)
II Kings 3:21-23 – Optical Illusion that the waters looked like blood
which deceived the Moabites. God may deceive and confuse your enemies.
-
7)
II Kings 4:1-7 – Increase in the widow’s oil. Many of you know that
for two years the LORD has supernaturally doubled the anointing oil that we have made
and given away. The first while I was holding the empty
container in my hand. The second by keeping the level of the oil in the
dispensing container at the same level for the first 700 bottles filled.
Yes, I anticipate HE will do the same this year.
-
8)
II Kings 4:12-17 – Like God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah, Elisha
prophesied a baby to a woman that was married to an old man. A son was
born.
-
9)
II Kings 4:32-37 – Raised a child from the dead. Elisha went into room alone
with the LORD. Prayed, laid on the child, prayed, laid on the child
again. I believe that when Elisha took the time to pray, he heard from
the LORD on how to bring life back into the child and that he walked in
complete faith and obedience. Then child sneezed 7 times and opened his
eyes.
-
10)
II Kings 4:38-41 – Threw meal in a pot so that it was safe for all the
prophets to eat. The parable is that one prophet’s word; teaching,
prayer and/or exhortation may provide safety, encouragement and even
sustain life
for other prophets.
-
11)
II Kings 4:42-44 – Multiplies Barley Bread to feed 100.
-
12)
II Kings 5:1-14 – Heals Naaman of Leprosy – Asks him to dip seven
times in the Jordan River which was not the cleanest river in the
territory. GOD does not always do what makes logical sense to us. HE
doesn’t have to, HE IS GOD! Personally my faith has
developed stretch marks in these last eight years in ministry.
-
13
& 14) II Kings 5:20-27 (read) - Gehazi’s sin discerned and he gets
leprosy for deceiving Elisha. GOD is just and HE is also
longsuffering.
-
15)
II Kings 6:1-7 Axe head made of Iron floats in water. God’s mercy is evident in our mistakes. The axe head was borrowed and
Elisha throws a stick in the water over the Iron Axe Head and it floats. Sometimes
GOD defies the natural laws of gravity!
-
Our
FATHER, the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY is a GOD of miracles, a GOD of double
portion, a GOD of provision, a GOD of life restored, a GOD of birth out
of barrenness, a GOD of parting the waters and making a way where there
is no way! We can trust HIM to move on our behalf, to intervene in our
lives, to bring justice to the injustice in our lives.
-
It is important to see that Elijah was a forerunner to
Elisha. Elisha was a forerunner to John the Baptist. And John the
Baptist was the forerunner to JESUS CHRIST our LORD and SAVIOR. Many of
the miracles of Elijah, Elisha, John the Baptist and JESUS CHRIST are the same - all
serving the same one, true GOD!
-
16,17,
& 18) II Kings 6:8-12 – Elisha is given divine revelation as to
the location of the enemy’s camp and their plans. He warned the King
three times.
And
the King listened.
-
19) II
Kings 6:17 – Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened and
the servant saw the mountains full of horses and chariots of fire around
Elisha. The word “see” in the Hebrew language means:
experience, perceive, view, vision, take joyfully, consider, discern and
more. Elijah prayed for his servant to see into the spiritual
dimension. How often do we look at our circumstances through the
spiritual dimension?
-
20,
21) II Kings 6:18-19 - Elisha smites the Syrian Army with blindness and
captures the entire army single-handedly.
-
22)
II Kings 6:20 – Heals the eyes of the Syrian Army.
-
23)
II Kings 6:32-33 – Gifts of Discernment and Words of Knowledge in
operation.
-
24,
25) II Kings 7:1-2 - Prophesies food and death to the unbeliever. The man
who questioned the word of the LORD saw the word of the LORD come forth
but then died without experiencing the fruit of the word. How much
unbelief is in our own lives?
-
26)
II Kings 7:6-7 - Lord caused Syrians to hear the sounds of war so they
fled their camp.
-
27)
II Kings 8:1- Heaven was shut for seven years. Remember Elisha is the
Double Portion Prophet and that Elijah shut the heavens for 3.5 years.
-
Read
II Kings 8:3-6 – Account of the Shunammite’s inheritance restored
after 7 years.
-
28,
29 & 30)
II
Kings 8:7-15 – Three accounts of divine revelation and knowledge in
Damascus.
-
31)
II Kings 9:1-3 - Anointing Oil Poured over Jehu as a symbol of him
becoming King of Israel. Chapters 9 & 10 give the full account of Jehu's complete destruction of Ahab’s seventy sons, Ahab’s forty-two
brothers, Jezebel, the rest of
Ahab’s
family and all of the Baal worshippers. The LORD promised Jehu that his
sons would rule for four generations because of his obedience in
eradicating Baal out of Israel. Even though Jehu took Baal Worship out
of the Israel he continued in his idol worship of the golden calves.
Jehu reigned 28 years as Kings of Israel but because of his sin in worshipping idols,
he lost
territories to other nations. Are
we like King Jehu we are obedient in one area of our life but
disobedient in the other and therefore lose the fullness of the promises
of the LORD?
-
32)
II Kings 13:14-19 - Prophesy of Arrows of Victory over the Syrians-not
going the full distance. How many times do we stop up short before the
LORD is completed with us? HE asks us to give $100, we give $10. HE asks
us to read the Word daily, we read it once a week? HE asks us to worship
HIM daily, we show up for 15 minutes on Sunday? How much do we really
revere and love HIM? Do we fully
comprehend the consequences of not walking in full obedience to the
LORD?
-
II
Kings 13:20 – Death of Elisha, buried in tomb. When a man was thrown
in the tomb he was resurrected. Now that is true anointing, when your
dead bones resurrect life. And when
JESUS walked out of the tomb, that is what HE gave to us - Resurrection Power and Life through HIS blood!
