Marti
and I work for the local telephone cooperative in Eureka, MT, yearning for
an opportunity to get away from work together to enjoy the Lord’s
beautiful mountainous creation around us and to soak in the Lord, we took
the day off to grouse hunt. A great cover for our real intent…to just
talk “Jesus”.
It
was a beautiful, after the rain, misty morning. We saw a few grouse, but
really didn’t care as we rambled along in Marti’s pickup up to
Arnold’s Pond, then onto the Yaak, and to Big Creek. We had a wonderful
time talking about our Lord and were sorrowful that it was now time for us
to return to “the world”.
As
we traveled down the mountain, nearing Lake Koocanusa (the name is derived
from the Kootenai Indians, Canada
and USA) the road wound down the mountain
to the massive bridge that spans narrow width of the lake, (The Lake is a
90 miles long reservoir formed by the 422 foot tall Libby dam, stretching
42 miles into British Columbia, it cuts a narrow fjord-like gorge between
the Purcell Mountains and the Salish Mountains. Rock outcrops and ledges
provide habitat for bighorn sheep, moose and elk. The dam provides flood
protection and hydroelectric power and reaches a maximum depth of 370
feet.)
We
started to cross the bridge as the sun peeked out through the drizzly
clouds, it was then we saw it, two perfectly formed rainbows stretching
from one shore to the other. The inner rainbow touched the shore where it
meets the water on both sides. The colors in both rainbows were brilliant
and perfect. Marti stopped the truck in the middle of the bridge, we both
stared at the absolutely breath taking glory of God. I got out, stood
within the cab looking over the cab of the truck as the wind pressed the
cool rain against my face and threw my hair in a mad wave behind me. I
threw my arms out in praise while I shouted as long and as loud as I was
physically able (I blew my God given shofar). I could hear the wind
whipping through rails of the bridge making a heavenly praise to our Lord
as it roared out to the Most High God. It was an incredible moment as God
passed by us, ended only by the coming of another vehicle. As I got in the
truck and sat down and closed the door, Marti and I were reluctant to
leave as we both stared at the wonder. As we started to continue over the
bridge God spoke to Marti…"See Me through the promise, not the
pain." His presence continued home with us that day. The experience
was so powerful that the after glow returns at the mere mention of it.
Don’t
you just love Jesus?
