King Ahab and Queen Jezebel

1.                 Scripture Reference: I Kings 16

2.          Verse 16 – Ahab reigned 22 years over Israel. This speaks largely about the long suffering and patience of the LORD GOD JEHOVAH!

3.          Verse 30 – Ahab did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him, like his father Omri. In Verse 25 Omri “did worse that all were before him.”  Parents – actions and lifestyles speak louder than words.

4.          Verse 31 – Married Jezebel (not a Jew) and served and worshipped Baal – which means an exceedingly perverse lifestyle.

5.           Verse 33 – Ahab made a grove (altar like a totem pole) to Baal. Ahab did more to provoke the LORD GOD of Israel to anger than all the Kings of Israel before him.

6.           I Kings 18

7.           Verse 1 – Ahab searches for Elijah in all the nations and does not find him. How many of you have lost something and asked GOD to help you find it and then you found it. Ahab had so little favor and blessing of the LORD he could not find Elijah. And Elijah had so much favor and blessing of the LORD he was protected from Ahab until it was GOD’s time for him to speak.

8.           Verses-17-19 Ahab loses 450 of Jezebel’s prophets – this is not a good day and certainly not good news to take to your ungodly wife.

 9.         Verses 41-46 Elijah out runs Ahab’s horse and chariot. So now not only are his wife’s prophets dead and a man outrunning the King’s horses and chariots has wounded his pride. The hand of the LORD was upon Elijah which signifies that a supernatural event is taking place.

10.        Chapter 19

11.        Verse 2 – Jezebel threatens Elijah’s life. It is not wisdom to threaten a prophet of the LORD. Just don’t go there.

12.        Chapter 20 – Ahab has two wars with the Syrians, which are victorious because the LORD wanted to show Ahab that HE was the LORD! And HIS word was truth! Victory is always more about the LORD than it is about us.

13.        Chapter 21 – Ahab sins against Naboth – coveting and stealing his vineyard! No! No! No! Do not covet and do not steal. GOD does not honor this.  While Ahab is in his new Vineyard – Elijah comes. Sooner or later GOD will make sure you get caught stealing. It is just HIS way as our FATHER!

14.        Verse 22 – Ahab provoked GOD and caused Israel to sin. Be careful of who you lead to do what! It is not wisdom to cause others to sin with you!

15.        Verse 23 – Consequences of sin – Jezebel will die.

16.        Verse 25-27 – Ahab repents of evil.

17.        Verse 28 – Elijah gives respite and word of the LORD will come in son’s generation.

18.        Chapter 22 – Ahab dies in third Syrian War.

19.        II Kings 9 – Jehu orders Jezebel thrown over wall and his horse tramples her to death – Elijah’s word comes true.

20.   The consequences of sin is death, but we have JESUS, who willingly gave HIS life for us so that we could walk in the fullness of life in HIM and have intimacy with HIS Father.
